Can I edit out elements of a photo to use it commercially?

A lot of our customers with backgrounds in commercial licensing want to know whether they can Photoshop out elements like small logos from our photos that have not been cleared for commercial use in order to use them for a commercial purpose.

While we cannot give legal advice on how you ultimately decide to edit or use non-commercial photos in your commercial projects, this is definitely a great option for our more experienced customers who understand the nuances of commercial licensing and releases.

In most cases, we recommend that you or your legal team come up with your own company guidelines and best practices regarding what types of photos you're comfortable editing. You can also see in the photo details whether there are model releases on file, should this help with your licensing decisions.
